Volume and aging

Age comes with changes in volume and shape of the face.
Aesthetic treatments have revolutionised the field of cosmetic treatments, offering advanced solutions for various aesthetic concerns. These therapies typically composed of a gel or other biocompatible materials, restore volume, rejuvenate the skin, and enhance facial features.
One of the primary benefits of gel therapy is their ability to address age-related changes in the skin. The skin loses its natural elasticity and volume as we age, resulting in wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging. They can effectively replenish lost volume, filling deep creases and smoothing the skin's texture. They can also enhance facial contours, such as augmenting the cheeks or lips, creating a more youthful and balanced appearance.
The advancements in gel treatments have improved formulations and techniques that provide more natural and longer-lasting results. Modern gels are often cross-linked, which means the molecules are bound together, resulting in a longer duration of action. This allows patients to enjoy the benefits of their treatment for an extended period, reducing the need for frequent touch-ups.
Furthermore, developing specialised gels have allowed targeted treatments in specific areas of the face. For instance, gels can effectively address under-eye hollows and dark circles, while chin or jawline treament can help contour the lower face. This level of precision enables Dr Young to tailor the treatment to each patient's unique needs, achieving optimal outcomes.
Additionally, advancements in techniques have enhanced the safety and comfort of gel treatments.

Safely using gel treatments ensures optimal outcomes and minimises potential risks.
Here are some critical considerations for the safe use of gel-
  1. Qualified and Experienced Practitioner: Choose Dr. Young, who has over 18 years of experience with all the current available gels. He thoroughly understands facial anatomy, injection techniques, and potential complications. Having experience with difficulties and how to treat them is also an essential facet of expertise.
He has also treated over 60000 patients.
  1. Medical Consultation: Before receiving any cosmetic treatment, have a comprehensive medical consultation with Dr Young to discuss your medical history, any allergies, medications you are taking, and previous cosmetic treatments. I want you to know that I must disclose any medical conditions or ongoing therapies, which is essential to ensure your gel treatment is done as safely as possible.
  2. Product Selection: Only TGA-approved gel should be used. Please make sure that the practitioner uses reputable brands and genuine products. TGA approval ensures that the fillers undergo rigorous safety and efficacy testing. A thorough understanding of different gel and how they respond in other areas and patients is also fundamental. More than one gel is usually used by Dr. Young to achieve the optimal result.
  3. Individualized Treatment Plan: Each individual has unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. A skilled practitioner will tailor the treatment plan based on your needs, considering the desired outcome, treatment areas, and the required filler. If you are Asian, Dr. Young has treated over 10,000 Asian patients; if you're Western, he has treated over 50,000 Western patients.
The understanding of racial differences and nuances is essential to correct treatment.
  1. Informed Consent: Before the procedure, you should receive a detailed explanation of the treatment, its benefits, potential risks, and possible side effects. Ensure that you understand the process and any post-treatment care instructions. Sign an informed consent form indicating your understanding and agreement.
  2. Hygiene and Sterility: The treatment area should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before the procedure. Dr Young uses sterile gloves, needles, or cannulas to minimise the risk of infection.
  3. Allergic Reactions: Although rare, allergic reactions can occur. Please let your practitioner know if you have a history of allergies, particularly to gel other gel components from an allergy test or recommend an alternative filler if necessary.
  4. Post-Treatment Care: Follow the post-treatment instructions provided by Dr Young carefully. This may include avoiding excessive sun exposure, strenuous exercise, or certain medications that can increase the risk of bruising or complications. Please report any unexpected or concerning symptoms to Dr Young immediately.
  5. Periodic Follow-up: Schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Young to review the results and address any concerns or questions you have for ongoing evaluation and maintenance of your results.

TGA guidelines prohibit the naming of any S4 medication, please book in for a full consultation to discuss your options.

Safety with gel-
Dr. Young has an emergency protocol for any gel vascular occlusion problems.
Avoiding this risk is the most important aspect, then the diagnosis and the optimal treatment.
How many mls will I need?
Just like an artist, Dr Young, does not think his patients are a one ml or two ml patient.
He assesses and treats each patient holistically and is not contrained by a certain number, the amount of volume needed is how much it is needed, most faces and areas are not uniform, hence we cannot think of unit volume or unit pricing.
Consider when an artist paints a picture, there is many colours and the volume of paint is not considered.
New areas to treat
Multiple new areas are possible-
  • mid cheek/tear trough areas
  • nose
  • jawline
  • forehead
  • brows
  • temples
  • Body shaping and correction of deficits.
How these areas are assessed and approached and what types of gel are used is vital for the correct and safe result.

"We now think of shadows and contours, rather than volume per se." Dr Young.

Asian Advanced areas-
Around eyes and lips. These are unique looks that are requested.

Other thoughts-
If you have had excess Hyaluronic acid dermal filler placed, Dr Young can dissolve this in part or entirety.
